Bio/Artist's Statement

Education:

1974 - BFA Fine Arts - University of Tennessee
1976 - MA Fine Arts - University of North Colorado
1984 - Post Graduate work - University of South Florida

Professional:

1989 to Present - Member of Full-Time faculty in School of Visual and Performing Arts - Hillsborough Community College

Influences:

I was most strongly influenced by the works of Miriam Schapiro and Judy Chicago early in my career.  In terms of technique, Kathe Kollwitz remains my most powerful influence.

Artist’s Statement:

The works represented here are a radical departure from my previous work that was dense and multilayered.  I felt a ‘clean break’ was needed and have recently been producing works that reach back to my early training as a printmaker.  Print techniques have changed over the past 20 years and, needless to say, so have I.

So, these works are non-traditional in the classical sense of printmaking and reflect concerns that are changing and continuing simultaneously.  Concerns like women’s issues, personal freedom, the view of a child of the 50’s and 60’s in a very changed art world and world at large are explored here.
